1. Agreement and scope

These terms govern your use of the website at codefont.dev (the “Site”) and the CodeFont extension for Visual Studio Code (the “Extension”), as distributed through the Visual Studio Marketplace under the publisher codefont. By using the Site or installing the Extension, you agree to these terms.

CodeFont is a free extension that applies installed monospaced fonts to the editor and terminal and stores preferences in VS Code’s settings. It has no account system and makes no network requests. The Site provides documentation, a font gallery, and Marketplace links; it does not host or distribute font files.

If you obtained the source code from GitHub and build it yourself, the MIT License governs that code, not these terms — see section 2.

2. Licence

The Extension’s source code is released under the MIT License; a copy ships at github.com/maxlee/code-font-vscode/blob/main/LICENSE. The MIT License grants broad rights to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and sell copies, provided the copyright and permission notices are included. Where these terms and the MIT License conflict regarding the code, the MIT License prevails.

These terms govern your use of the Site, your use of the Extension as distributed under our Marketplace publisher identity, and your use of the CodeFont name and logo (see section 7).

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Site to distribute malware, phishing content, or unlawful material;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site, its hosting, or its analytics or advertising accounts;
  • scrape or request the Site at a volume that degrades service for other users;
  • generate automated clicks, impressions, or other invalid activity on advertisements, or interfere with ad serving or measurement;
  • misrepresent the Extension as your own product, remove required copyright notices, imply endorsement without permission, or redistribute a modified build under the codefont publisher identity.

Invalid advertising activity may be reported to Google, and the offending traffic blocked.

4. What the Extension changes

This section matters more than any other, practically speaking.

The Extension writes to VS Code settings under editor.* (for example editor.fontFamily), terminal.integrated.*, and codefont.*. Changes may be written at global, workspace, or folder scope.

It provides a Reset to Default command but does not automatically back up your previous configuration. Review changes before relying on them, keep your own backup of settings.json if your configuration is complex or shared, and remember that workspace settings can override global ones.

5. Third-party services and advertising

Marketplace, GitHub and fonts

The Extension is distributed through the Visual Studio Marketplace and its source is hosted on GitHub; those platforms’ terms apply. Fonts in the gallery belong to their creators and are distributed under their own licences. We display names, specimens, and links for identification, do not distribute font binaries, and grant no licence to any font. Font authors can request corrections or removal via section 8.

Advertising and links

When advertising is enabled, the Site displays advertising served by Google AdSense. We do not select, control, or endorse the advertised products and services, and have no relationship with the advertisers; your interactions with an ad, and any purchase, are between you and the advertiser. Ads are governed by Google’s terms and privacy policy, not these terms; see the Privacy Policy for cookies. We are not responsible for external resources linked from the Site.

6. Disclaimer and liability

The Site and the Extension are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Extension will work with every VS Code version, platform, or font, that detection will be complete, that the Site will be uninterrupted, or that any ad or offer is accurate or available.

Font verification is a heuristic: it reduces the chance of applying a broken font but does not guarantee correct rendering or replace your own testing.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, CodeFont and its author are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill, or productivity, arising from your use of the Site or Extension. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total aggregate liability is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or (b) USD 0; the Extension is free, so this is zero in practice. Nothing limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.

You agree to indemnify CodeFont and its author from claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach or misuse of the Site or Extension.

7. Changes, intellectual property and governing law

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Site or the Extension at any time without notice. If we discontinue the Extension, the MIT License lets you continue to use, fork, and distribute versions you already have. We may update these terms; continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.

The CodeFont name, logo, Site design, and Site copy are owned by the CodeFont project’s author and are not covered by the MIT License. The source code is licensed under MIT, not assigned; copyright remains with its authors. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of any intellectual property to you.

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the CodeFont project is operated, and disputes will be brought in its courts. EEA or UK consumers keep the protection of mandatory consumer law in their country of residence. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in force; these terms and the MIT License are the entire agreement regarding the Site and Extension.
